The detail

What is Exercise With Oxygen Therapy (EWOT)?

Light exercise, high-concentration oxygen, and a short session built around one idea: more oxygen at the moment the body can use it most.

Exercise With Oxygen Therapy (EWOT) at Mindbody Lounge Victoria Park

Exercise With Oxygen Therapy — EWOT — combines light exercise with high-concentration oxygen. You ride a stationary bike at an easy, conversational pace while breathing oxygen drawn from a reservoir through a mask, at normal room pressure. Ordinary air is around 21% oxygen; what you breathe during an EWOT session is considerably richer than that.

The exercise is the point. Moving raises your heart rate and opens up circulation, so the oxygen you are breathing is delivered while demand is high. It is a short, low-effort session rather than a workout — you set the pace, there is no target to hit, and most people pair EWOT with infrared sauna, cryotherapy or compression in the same visit.

FAQ

Got questions?

We’ve answered the key ones to help you book your first session with confidence.

EWOT is light exercise done while breathing high-concentration oxygen. At Mindbody Lounge that means riding a stationary bike at an easy pace with a mask supplying oxygen from a reservoir, at normal room pressure. Ordinary air is about 21% oxygen — an EWOT session delivers considerably more than that while your circulation is working. Sessions are short, and you set the effort.

Sessions are short — commonly around 15 minutes — because it is the combination of movement and oxygen doing the work rather than the duration. Two or three times a week suits most people, and it sits alongside your usual training rather than replacing it. If you are using it mainly for recovery, rest days work well. We will confirm the right length and rhythm with you on your first visit.

Pressure and movement. In our Airpod you lie still inside a mildly pressurised chamber, and it is the pressure that makes it hyperbaric. With EWOT there is no pressure change at all — you breathe high-concentration oxygen at normal room pressure while you exercise, and the exercise is what drives circulation. They are complementary rather than competing, and plenty of people use both across a week.

No. You control the resistance and the pace, and a comfortable effort where you could still hold a conversation is exactly right — pushing hard is not the point. If breathing ever starts to feel harder rather than easier, that is a signal to stop, and someone is always with you. Tell us if you have not exercised in a while and we will start you gently.

EWOT is done at normal room pressure and at a light effort, which is why most healthy adults tolerate it well. Check with your GP first if you have a heart or lung condition, use prescribed oxygen, have uncontrolled high blood pressure, have had a recent stroke, or are pregnant. Anyone who has had bleomycin chemotherapy should not use supplemental oxygen without their doctor’s direction. Let us know about any injury that makes cycling uncomfortable — we run through a short screening before your first session.
